We’ve been keyframing, making masks and drawing paths for as long as we can remember. In addition to our live-action work, we’re well familiar with animation and motion graphics as well. Here you’ll find a wide collection of material, from a variety of different methods, from full-on 100% animation, to subtle compositing and motion tracking.
ScienceATL 'Atlanta 40'
ScienceATL approached us to make a promo for their Atlanta 40 project, an interactive exploration of the environment and its creatures in the area. Writer Brad Harvey created the insane script, which led us to add animation to make that insanity visual. We had a lot of fun with this one.
Mombi - 'Procrastinate'
We created this fully-3D project from scratch in Cinema 4D and Redshift as part of a School of Motion workshop. It’s fun, silly, and moves at a might pace. We had a lot of fun designing all of the elements, but the dog might be our favorite of the bunch.
United 'New Routes'
United Airlines was about to announce the new routes they were going to be flying (always a big deal), so they asked us to create this teaser (along with the finished reveal), using a custom 3D paper airplane.
AWP 2022 Promo
AWP once again asked us to make a promo for their annual conference. Using still elements they’d passed along to us, we created this dynamic, animated piece.
'Button Power' Promo
Our friend Christen Carter had a new book from Princeton Press coming out, all about her first love: buttons. We loved the book and offered to help make a promo for it. She encouraged us to go as crazy and weird as we’d like, so we did… and then some. A mix of newly shot footage and stock, animation and loads of compositing.
Julie's Trek Through Louisiana
A friend of our’s wrote this song back in 2003 and we’d always liked it. Jump 20 years in the future and we decided it was finally time to give it some visuals, so we built the whole thing from scratch in 3D, using Cinema 4D and Redshift. What does it all mean? We don’t know either, but it sure is fun.
Field Notes 'Vignette'
A mix of shot footage, stock photography, compositing, and lots of animation made to look real, this project for Field Notes ran the whole gamut and was a ton of fun to put together.
Field Notes 'Heavy Duty'
A parody of All-American truck commercials from, say, the past 40 years, this promo for Field Notes utilized stock footage, lots and lots of compositing, tracking and animation. It’s also very silly.
LDBC - 'Froth City'
For the launch of Lazy Dog's ‘Froth City’ theme park-themed edition, we created a whole world from scratch. We handled all of the producing/directing of the live action material and then spent more than a few hours crafting a 3D amusement park from the ground up entirely in Cinema 4D. Everyone’s favorite in this piece is the Churro Man, who we brought to life based on one of the can’s artwork.
The Following
A short film written by Steve’s kids, shot on fancy anamorphic lenses and then painstakingly rendered and tracked and rotoscoped to add a stalking zombie.
Valentines 2022
Our annual Valentines film, this time featuring characters hand-drawn by the kids, then brought to life in Cinema 4D, complete with motion captured dance moves.
Field Notes 'Ignition'
Lots of motion control and compositing trickery went into this one for Field Notes, using camera robots, spinning motorized plates, and tons of rotoscoping and After Effects-ing.
Bric Arts Media
To help launch a new location for the famed Brooklyn art organization, we created this engaging piece full of 3D elements, motion graphics, actors shot on a stage, among other bits and bobs.
Adobe 'Layer Tennis'
For several years, we worked with Adobe on Coudal Partner’s Layer Tennis event. At the end of each “season,” we’d create a complex animation that weaved together all of the elements from the 50+ online matches. They’re super fun to watch, even if they don’t quite make any sense to anyone not in the audience for the event.
Field Museum 'Big Fish'
Delahoyde Projects created a series of short documentaries on different subjects inside of the Field Museum, including this piece about a very large fish. It features a number of tracked, animated sequences, illustrating various parts of the large creature. Several of these pieces began showing in the museum itself, on installation screens.
AWP Conference 2021
The AWP Conference was going totally virtual in 2021 and they needed something that would promote the event, while also showing viewers who were used to attending in person, how the site would work. Given only screen grabs of the in-process site itself, we turned it into this dynamic promo.
Mac and Cheese
A personal project from a little while back, we took an existing instrumental track from the 1960s, added lyrics (somehow it became about Kraft Mac N’ Cheese) and spent way too much time turning it into a bizarre ad.
Ms. & Mrs.
The gift company Ms. & Mrs. had sales through the roof, but they were finding that their audience was having trouble saying their name. They decided a pretty substantial change was needed, so they decided to tease the reveal with this animated project, highlighting why it was needed.
Valentine's 2021
Every year for the past 18 years, Steve has made a Valentine’s video for his wife and they are always weird. This one, using a reoccurring character last seen a few years prior, was written by Steve’s kids. It is maybe the strangest one yet. Until next year’s.
Pinch Provisions
The popular gift company was undergoing a name change and they wanted something fun to announce it with. We shot the model and then spent days and days animating her different interactions with the text.
FirstLook MAX
For years now, we have helped Incisent Labs create video content for various ads, trade shows, and pre-roll purchases. This is a quick example of some of the animation work we’ve done for them.
Kellogg - DAK 2021
An example of some of the corporate animation work we’ve done, this piece for Northwestern needed to make self-shot video look a bit more dynamic and appealing, so we flew in and out of a grid system to help tell the story.
Paul's Weather Report
Stuck at home during the pandemic, Steve and his kids decided to do a daily weather report, which they did without pause for more than 120 episodes. At some point, we decided to shoot a proper intro, full of news-y animation.
Pope John XXIII 'Traffic Flow'
A pro-bono project for a local school in Evanston, we wrote the script, shot the footage, and added all of the animation elements, resulting in one of the best parking lot procedure videos ever made in the South Evanston region (probably).
EmcArts
New York’s EMCArts organization needed a way of showing exactly what they did, so we worked with them to create this kinetic text animation explaining just that.
Wait Wait Don't Tell Me
A fun animated piece for the popular NPR show, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, we were handed a few images from their press packet, as well as a bit of footage, and asked to make something engaging and dynamic to help promote the show and ticketing. We did it!
WBEZ/Vocalo
Chicago’s WBEZ was about to launch an all-new network in the region and wanted to explain what exactly it was and how it would be different than the NPR-affiliate. We created this animated piece out of the images they’d handed us, as well as various pieces filmed and photographed around the area.
